I got an 89 RS, originally came with 2.8 V6 t5 manual transmission, I pulled the engine and tranny out. I got a 3500 Budget and I need to know what would be the best engine and transmission I should put in it. I want it to be non Computer controlled, So im going carburated motor , I was thinking just a 350 with maybe a stage 2 700R4, but if anyone else has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Again my budget is 3500 For now. what would be a good and pretty simple combination?

 

Get a vortec 350 & freshen it up. 4bbl. intakes for them are out there.
Ever think of keeping it a stick shift? Check into the 6spds that came in the 4th gens.

 

I would like to keep it a stick but my budget for the engine and transmission is 3500 and I cant find a T56 swap package for under 2000. I have found quite a few places selling rebuilt Stage 2 700r4s that handle 550 Horsepower for 8-900 dollars. But since my car is an manual nw, how would I connect the shifter and mount the shifter in the car? If anyone knows of some places that sell the T56 cheaper please let me know
