Excellent catch cIaRmOaCrZo, I didn't even notice that. Sojer, the reason why you would want to go back in and grind the gasket down to match the ports is because with the gasket sticking out the way that it is, it is now going to cause turbulence that way...

After 2days of firing still no start. Took the dizzy out and got it to point to cyl #1 so I hope it fires 2morrow. I will try to catch it on vid.

Pointing at #1 isn't good enough. It needs to be pointing at #1 when the #1 piston is at TDC AND on the #1 firing cycle.

But, if you're saying you don't have any spark, that's a different issue.

I don't see how this helps but if it does. It sounds like a car that has no spark or fuel

A couple of things for you to try. First, pull the coil plug wire off of the distributor and stick a flat head screwdriver into it until it is firmly positioned on the terminal inside the boot. Have your buddy turn the engine over again, and listen for spark, you will know if you have spark immediately or not. If you don't have spark, check your electrical connections, ignition module, and the coil itself. If you do have spark, move on to the next thing to try. Two, spray a little fuel into the throttle body (you can use carb cleaner), then try to start the engine again. If the engine starts, then either your injectors aren't opening, or you have a fuel pump issue. If the engine doesn't start, then you have a timing issue. Either the rotor under the cap is off 180 degrees, or you still need to advance or retard the cap to find TDC.

Edit: Regarding that clicking noise in the beginning, check your IAC valve...

Re: 305 LB9 300 HP build

about the weak spark post, I had a bad coil drive me crazy last summer, it was a six month old msd. I would put a spark plug in the wire directly from the coil and it would spark bright blue, when I would check from the regular plug wire I would get nothing. I thought it was the cap at first. I had to call msd for the specs and it checked bad, you can test you coil by checking the primary and secondary resistance, dont remember them off hand but i'm sure you could find them if you searched around here.

Re: 305 LB9 300 HP build

I set my initial timing like this. Get the Engine at # one TDC (timing mark at the zero degree mark of the compression stroke) with the distributor cap on, I locate the number one terminal on the distributor cap, then I mark the base of the distributor with a marker directly below the terminal. Then I install the distributor so the rotor is pointing at the driver side headlight. Then I rotate the base so the rotor lines up with the mark that corresponds to number one terminal. This should set the initial timing well enough to get the engine started.

The rotor only point at a fixed spot its a small cap dizzy and if it was off it would still have strong spark, I did not ground the body to the engine good or the wires to the computer, so I will ground it and try it. The dizzy is in right its been checked a ton of times by outher engine builders. The spark is so weak the timing light won't pick it up. Thanks for the help guys on my way to work (that's where my car is) will make another vid

Re: 305 LB9 300 HP build

I'm done got it running but it seems to have a intake leak. I can't find it. When I put the 1205 gaskets with the cork valley gasket, it sits too high meaning it not touching eather head. So I tried two it fit jus right but still run like **** so I went to 1 1205 and use rtv no luck. I even used felpro 9617 gasket no luck I think the block might have been redecked. So I will by by boss 92 integra 5spd burning a lil oil for 200 and pull the motor and redo a vortec 350 with my 113 heads and hsr get a used 350 tpi ecu get it reprogramed and try that. or can a maf do it this it was unpluged and running the same I have a new IAC
