another 350 build with vortecs?
ok so hears the deal once i get back on my feet walking again i have to get my car done to drive everyday i have a 89 trans am and in the shop i have 2 motors and alot of parts that can go on. both motors needs pistons and rings. first motor is a 383 motor has rods but number 1 pistons broke and rod is no good but i have the same issue with the 350 .60 over i want to go with this motor instead of the 383 block. i picked up some flat top pistons with eagle rods but there is only 7 of them haha what my plan is is to buy a set of flat top 2 valve and try and buy 1 new rod so i can use stronger rods then stock i can not decide on a cam to use as the car is a every day driver but i am not worried about mpg with this motor i just want it to start and go with out having to try 5 times on a cold morning but i want the power i want the car to have a smooth idle i have 2 sets of heads the vortec 906 heads with springs and valves and then i have some older i think 64 cc but they have 1.5 crane roller rockers on them so i dont know witch to use and for the intake i have 1. holley street domainator with edelbrock 600 carb and a edelbrock street proformer with a 650 quadjet i want fast and high revs.i am looking to get into 375-450 hp and 450ish i cant let these damn hondas get me
also should i think about getting a msd box will it benifit me? what else should i need and i do plan on spraying 100 shot after i reach the hp numbers i am looking for

Dude I want to help you, I do. But I cant follow your massive block of text with no punctuation.
A 350 with vortec heads that is streetable is gonna have a hard time getting past 375hp. Thats been done with a comp XR276.

Re: another 350 build with vortecs?
i am sorry! lol i did it from my phone and didnt relize there wasnt any ., ect.
so getting past 375 on those heads prob isnt going to work? i just have all these parts and no direction where to go to get the best results.disregaurd the part about the 383. i have 7 eagle rods i need to buy just one more and i am going to order flat top pistons 2vr. and i cant determine weather to use the vortec heads givin they are better but i dont have rocker arms to use on those heads but i do have the other set of heads that already has 1.5 roller rockers but the are not as good from what i have read.now my cam will be determined on what heads i will use .right? cause i dont want to get a cam thats good for the vortecs but crapy for the 64 cc heads i think they are 202s/194?i am just trying to figure out out of all theses parts i have what is the best match cause i have read online people bash every product and people love them at the same time so i am just confussed

How hard/expensive it will be to get beyond 375 HP depends upon where it's measure. Flywheel, piece of cake. Rear wheels, a lot tougher.
If you're making your head choice based on what rockers you have, I'd be concerned about making even 300 HP.
Use a roller lifter cam if the block has provision for it. Of course, the difference between the cost of a roller lifter cam vs. a flat tappet cam is a lot more than the cost of a set of rockers.

The "Something Old Something New" 355 build by GM High-tech Performance made 416hp with vortec heads and a tame CC roller cam. Granted it was on a TPI motor with head porting and extrude honed runners and manifold. A carb'd 350 should be capable of even more as it is not as torque biased as the TPI setup.

Also check out the "Goodwrench Quest" series over at Chevy High Performance. They made : 408 hp at 5,800 and 430 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpm in a very streetable 350.

Note the power numbers from both of those articles are gross flywheel HP (although at least they used mufflers). At the rear wheels, you'd be unlikely to see over 350 HP.
Re: another 350 build with vortecs?
Here's a proven recipe with all of the supporting parts
350
10:1
Vortec heads prepped (but unported) for screw-in studs.
26918 Comp spring (for simplicity with the Vortecs).
Modern roller cam grind with 270 (min) duration. 525" lift.
RPM performer style intake w/650 cfm carb
Headers and decent exhaust.
400 crankshaft horsepower and excellent street manners.
Put it in a 3500 lb car with gears, converter and traction and your 12's easy ( unless you race at Bandimere).
What I can verify is that my particular combination (which is similar) dynoed at 290rwhp. That said, at 3700 lbs it went 1.7 60', 12.7 best et and 108 mph (all in good weather at sea level). The math says 400+ chp but I can only go by results.

Re: another 350 build with vortecs?
I agree with that. Although, at least they are using some type of real data, as opposed to many of the clowns on youtube who put an exhaust, intake and vortecs on their car and then claim they have 650 rwhp!
