Ok, so I bought an 87 IROC.. find it has a blown head-gasket. I'm planning on rebuilding the motor because the guy said it was the original motor. I bought a perfect 5.7 TPI out of a 91Z with only 80,000 miles a year ago and I'm wondering..

1.Can I pull my 87 5.7 TPI and replace it with the 91 5.7 TPI ?

2.Can anyone tell me what off the 87 TPI do I need to put on the 91 (senor wise) ? I know one is a MAF and the other is a MAP (I have both breathers), and the tranny speedo units are different.

3.Will the signal to the tach be the same..?

4. I want to rebuild the 87 5.7, but I want to take my time doing it.. My 91 5.7 has been sitting in the corner of my garage, how long before a motor seizes up?

Undo intake , take old engine out , put new engine in ,put old intake back on.
Put all sensors ( knock sensor , etc ) from old motor on new motor
Nothing changes, computer doesn't know what year engine it is operating
