416 head swap problem hepl needed

OK I'm in the middle of a 416 head swap on a 1997 350 it has stock dish pistons and stock roller cam and lifters

the block is stock deck height and the heads haven't been milled

my problem is when i put the push rods in tonight the factory 350 rollercam push-rods do not appear to fit correctly as when i roll the engine by hand with no plugs in it it feels like it starts to bind somewhere after about 1/8-1/4 turn in ether direction my

i tried to put a non roller 305 push-rod in it to compare the difference and that looks way to short

so i was wondering is there any differences in the rocker arm's in the vortec 350 heads vs the 416, 305 heads or possibly the push-rod gides in the heads that may be causing this issue

p.s. this engine is not being built for power so don't suggest getting vortec's for it instead of the 416's right now i just need to get it running and this is what i got two work with

thanks for taking the time to reed this hope you can help

Roller and flat tappets use different length pushrods. Vortec vs 416 heads doesn't matter.

Something else is causing it to lock up. Recheck your work.

Re: 416 head swap problem hepl needed

ok i put the self aligning rockers in it and clearanceed the pushrod guide holes in the head and it no longer locks up but now that i can roll it over the valve springs seem to compressing way to much i'm kinda stumped on this because the stock cam should not have anywhere nere that kind of lift

what would you recommend i check next to figure out what the hell is going on with this thing
