time for upgrade 305 to 383

I decided its time to swap my 89 rs 305 Tbi for a 383 stroker. I'm tired of allThese small ricers trying to race me, these vettes, and the mustangs. I can't keep up. I was thinking about switching to a 383, and making it a sleeper. What will I need to do this right?

Good fuel pump, tune your tbi, mabye a radiator, upgraded ignition, lower gears and higher stall would help too. And as vetteoz wisely said, $$$$$$ helps

eagle sells a kit a reasonably priced stroker kit ...some like eagle and some dog on it. You will likely have to update your rear end and transmission to match that raw hp. You will need a 350 block and take that to a machine shop to prepped up if you plan on putting the rest together. You will need new motor mounts. Most likely you will need new cylinder heads/intake/carb/headers. And the list goes on. I bet you could do the engine for around 3 grand. But then you have to beef up your trans and rear end. You may need a ford 9" or 12 bolt depending on your torque and hp 2. A lot of things to think about.

Thats a start. Thanks. I just needed a basic shove in the right direction. This is not something I know I will do overnight.

Re: time for upgrade 305 to 383

I just did this swap last year, got a fresh 383 short block from a gearhead I know (saved a lot of $$$). Had my 700r4 beefed up, and had 3.42s put in the rear. I went carb for simplicity, kept my in tank pump and am running a fuel pressure regulator. It was my first build and wasn't too bad at all. Wiring was a bit of a puzzle, but that is what thirgen.org is for! And don't put a huge Moroso oil pan on your 383. I did and it is giving me exhaust nightmares...had a cat-back stainless magnaflow on, but my y-pipe was scraping the road on the slightest bump...back to open headers for now. Anyone need a stainless cat-back magnaflow system barely used??
