My 1985 Z28 build, 350-450 hp, manual transmission.
I guess, I will just start an open debate, and maybe follow my build. This thread will take awhile.
My ultimate goal, is to have a 350-450 hp 3rd gen, t-tops and a manuel transmission. Very streetable, and reliable. Take some track days road/autocross and drag racing.
I want to keep a stock style hood.
Car is a 1985 Z28 w/t-tops, 5-speed and an LG4 305. Car actually runs and drives very well. Lots of new parts feels almost like it did new, I bet.
Either way, what are some of the ways of going about this. Price is a big factor, not planning to drop $7k on a race built engine or anything.
Ideas I have had, are built SBC, with possibly a my T5, behind it? not sure on the abilities to build up the T5, I know they are pretty weak, and will likely have to go with a LT1 T56. I know with this alot of my current 305 stuff will work, No need for an aftermarket K member, some things are easy with this.
Next is possibly the LSx, 5.3, 6.0 whatever, and a t56 as well. My stipulations are easily met with this. This worries me a bit as it might start get nickle and diming. K-member, harness(if I could get the a schematic, and the GM connectors I could fab up an awesome harness) I also did some tuning on OBDII v6 f-bodies, but I know the cost of tuning software gets pricey as well.
Also its a full swap over. So even just physical things will get pricey.
LT1 swap, I don't know much about these, not a huge fan of them but willing to look into them as they are cheap as well.
Thanks for any input, helping me make my decision, or even just links to sites to give me overviews. I am searching around and trying to get more up to date on stuff.
BTW, the car.

PS, some of the first mods will be subframe connectors, maybe a roll bar. Also maybe a suspension upgrade, but pretty happy with what is going on at the moment.

Looks like a really nice car. You are on the right track, start by stiffening the chassis.
That's where I am going to start, then attack the handling and braking of the car, then go for the engine.
