Driveshaft Question
Driveshaft Question
Hello everyone. I have a 1990 Pontiac Firebird that had a 3.1 V6 with the 700R4 tranny. I swapped to a 5.7 350 with a 350 Turbo tranny. The old driveshaft is to short. So I got one from a Nova (forget the year) but this one is to long. My dad is going to cut it for me but he needs to know what the dimensions need to be. How much play there needs to be etc. If someone could get back to me as soon as possible that would be great! Thank you!

Re: Driveshaft Question
Measure it yourself
Push yoke into trans hard ( can leave attached to DS ) , pull yoke back out required amount.( see link)

Measure from center of uni on trans yoke to center of uni on diff
Cut DS to suit

Re: Driveshaft Question
You need a driveshaft from a 82-83 third gen that came with a 200c 3 speed tranny or you need a TH350 with a 9" tailshaft to use the original driveshaft.
The proper length is to slide the slip yoke into the tranny all the way then pull it back out 1". Measure center of u-joint to center of u-joint on the diff.
If you're going to modify a driveshaft, you're better to get one custom made and balanced.
How are you mounting the torque arm?

Re: Driveshaft Question
Okay thanks for the replies. I am going to see if one out of a 85 Trans Am will work, if not I'm going to get the Nova drive shaft I have cut to the right length. And as for mounting the torque arm I am not sure. My dad said he had used a piece of steel somehow before idk. I will find out what he meant today.
