305, what engine to swap?

I have an 84 Trans Am H.O. 5.0 (305)...I want my car to accelerate like there's no tomorrow! It's my first car, so I'm not exactly an expert. Which engine would be the best to swap in? (assuming that price isn't a factor) Which engine would make my ride fly without too many DRASTIC adjustments. I'm not trying to race; I just want to have the upper advantage in the event that I do.

I have heard that what you what is prolly the ls1 or a ls series engine from what I hear they very little to reach over 400hp and have great low end torque (launching power) check with the experts about wiring and tuning.

Pretty much everyone here will say a built 350 or a LS series motor. Both will do every thing you want.

Re: 305, what engine to swap?

If you're new, then a 350 or 383 swap will be your best option. There's a lot to learn in order to perform a successful engine swap, and going to the LS platform adds another level of complexity that can easily overwhelm a beginner, not to mention the huge amount of money that all those "little things" along the way that you didn't anticipate that start to pile up.

Re: 305, what engine to swap?

I feel stupid for asking this question..but I don't care...my Trans Am's mileage indicator reads (728932)...the "2" is the one that is constantly spinning to show how much further I have till the next mile..I'm kind of confused because most cars have 6 digits and then the constantly rotating 1...but my Trans Am has 5 digits before the turning 1...does my Trans Am have 72,893mi? Or 728,932mi? It was garage kept for more than 20yrs due to the previous owner's death and her mom was handicapped so there was no one to drive it until my grandmother inherited it and gave it to me...can anyone help? Google isn't any help right now..

72k. The digit to the far right is tenths. Of course, it's possible that it has 172k or 272k too. Because it's only got 5 miles digits, it'll roll over at 100k miles.

Is this too drastic? Cause it's guaranteed to make you fly!
