383 build
i have a 327 that id like to build up. im looking into making it a 383/388 and was wondering what all is needed to be done and if there are any full kits out there? any tips/suggestions will be great!! thanks
Re: 383 build
search:chevy 383 on ebay. you´ll find plenty of parts from rotating kits, ready engine blocks ect.
Re: 383 build
i was told i wouldnt be able to do a 383 stroker with a 327 and would need a 350 block?? is this true, because i thought all small blocks are the same and thought id be able to use the 327

Well the 327 has the 4" bore just like the 350, just a shorter stroke, so if you bore it 30 over and give it the longer stroke then you'll have a 383, basically, a 350 with a longer stroke is a 383 also a 350 with a shorter stroke is a 327, same bore size, just different stroke

Small journal. You would need to at least have the mains turned down to fit the crank in the block. It could perhaps be done (not sure how the oil holes would end up), but I don't know of anyone who makes a 3.75" stroke crank with small journals.
Personally, I'd find a later 1-piece RMS roller-lifter-ready block and put a stroker kit in it.

According to "chevy parts interchange manual" the early blocks are not as strong, and as mentioned, you will need to get your crank mains turned down as well.
I think you would be better off finding a one piece main block and building it, IMO.

In not sure why my post was deleted and yours was not, both were equally unnecessary and completely disrespectful

No need to flame someone for a personal decision he makes, it's not your choice and there's no such thing as a wrong opinion, it's ok if you don't agree with it but you don't have to be disrespectful to him

Re: 383 build
i was also wondering why yours was and his wasnt.... im new to this and was just trying to get some opinions... after the numerous ppl saying what would need to be done(in a respectful way) i have decided to not make it into a 383 and just keep it as is and go a different route with it...

Re: 383 build
I know and I see his point (which I don't agree with) but its the way he said it, no one will ever get a point across acting like that, simply saying "a different block might be better to start with, especially financially and time wise" then he would get his point across

Re: 383 build
disrespectful

Sorry if helping someone understand why they are making a mistake, seems direspectful TO YOU.
I suppose I should just go ahead and let him be an "alternate winner" instead of offereing him some HELP pulling himslef out of his self-destructive mindset? It would be more "respectful" to act as an enabler for a bad idea, and watch him crash and burn due to bad decision making as a result of unclear thinking?
What is this world coming to anyway?

No, you're problem is that you are trying to help but in the wrong way, the best way to help would be to do it nicely, doing it the way you did will just make people completely reject the idea all together because you had to be a **** about it, I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, I'm just saying the way you went about expressing it is wrong

When I get ready to build a motor I hope to have his and a few certain others input (most have already chimed in here) as they seem more knowledgable and willing to help than many.
