GM 383 Vortec Engine
Well I have developed what I believe is a rod knock in my 1992 Formula 350. Engine has a little more than 114000 miles. Great engine lasted under many blasts with 150 NOS. So I have been trying to make up my mind about what to put in its place. I wanted to do an LS1, then found a 1993 LT1 with 38000 miles for 1900.00 but someone got it before I did. I don't to spend a **** ton of money but have finally found my way to this.
This offer is a Chevy 383 stroker motor, with GM iron VORTEC heads. The block is a 350 with 1-piece seal, that recieves this machining: Bored and honed- Deck gasket surface- Grind for rod clearance with stroker crank. The VORTEC iron heads, feature 175cc intake ports - heart shaped 64cc chambers, for greater strength and performance. No core exchange required, saving you HUNDRED$$
This engine is built to order, taking appox. 3 weeks, after payment thru PayPal. The engine comes with a NEW 5qt. oil pan and balancer installed, along with a NEW (Satin or Polished finish) dual plane intake manifold. The engine will be painted the color of your choice, and comes with valvecovers of choice (Chrome plated steel - Black/red letters - Gray/blue letters- Polished aluminum).
The crankshaft is by "EAGLE" products, with 5.7" long I-beam rods and SpeedPro pistons with moly rings, giving pump gas friendly (10to1) compression ratio. A Comp Cams hydralic camshaft, spec's (232/232`@.050" with .480" lift) with matching valve springs, providing TREMENDOUS acceleration, with a power range of 2000-5700 rpm's.
This engine is hand fitted and assembled, by ASE certified Master Machinist (me), with 26 years experience. This engine comes with a 90 day parts and workmanship guarantee, after start-up.
Expect 425hp and 420 ft.lbs. torque, PERFECT for your CAMARO / FIREBIRD / TRANS AM / C-10 / S-10 / CHEVELLE / MALIBU / CORVETTE / VEGA / STREET ROD / IMPALA / BEL AIR / EL CAMINO / MONTE CARLO. This motor has serious power!
New LOWER price $2499.00 + freight.
So my question is what do you guys think. The seller is a well respected builder with a great rep. I know I will probably need a lower Vortec TPI manifold but will the cam work the stock computer. A chip I guess? Any comments or thoughts would be great. Also I will definitely be switching to a T56. Thanks.

Re: GM 383 Vortec Engine
Seems like it has the potential to make about what he claims it will. Those are a set of stock casting vortecs I'd imagine with the 175cc runners. Only thing I am curious about is his decision to not use a split duration cam since the Vortecs respond very well to a larger exhaust duration.
I don't know much about the TPI years, always switched my stuff to carb. It will need to be tuned somehow; along with new injectors at the very least. I'd go with something like the HSR intake or else you'll fall flat on your face in the higher RPMs.

Re: GM 383 Vortec Engine
I agree. I sent him an email and he tells me that with the TPI he is going to use a different cam. Something along the lines of a 224/230 with a 112LSA. I am wondering if I use the vortec tpi base and a set of ASM or TPIS runners how that would work. But I guess for the same price I could get the HSR as you mention.
