Not needed after swap?
I have a 91 firebird. The PO had a carbureted 350 in it and I will be putting one back in soon. There is so much clutter in the engine compartment! What can I get rid of? I want that "clean" look of the old muscle cars. I plan to get a field service manual so I can ID all the random stuff but thought I'd see if I could get some ideas here.

Ok, here is pic of my engine compartment. I mite get rid of the A/C. That will free up some space. I also plan to re-route and recover that mess of wires. Anyone know what 3 the things on either side of the master cylinder are (on the fire wall)

Basically anything associated with that big bundle that goes to the passenger side fenderwell can be removed. You don't have to cut it, but you might need to unbundle some of the things that are together with the stuff on the other side of the engine compartment.
I'm not sure what those components are. I only have Camaros, and early 3rd gen at that. Perhaps someone more familiar with Firebirds and later 3rd gens can answer. But, I do know if they are associated with that big bundle that goes to the passenger fenderwell, they are computer related and won't be needed (depending upon how you handle fuel delivery for the carb'd engine).

As five7 said, the entire passenger side bundle is all computer related whereas everything coming from the driver side is stuff that you will want to keep (gauge wires, headlights, etc).
Removing the passenger bundle is a matter of dislocating the connectors at the ECM (under the passenger dash), following the wires in the bundle to their respective sensors, and pulling the bundle out of the fender area. It is very simple but you do have to take your time.

Thanks guys! That gives me a great head start. I have the interior gutted for some rust repair and figured since I'll be painting that, may as well clean up the engine compartment while I'm at it. Looks like I have some rust chasing to do in the fender wells as well. By the way IROCtheRoad, bad a$$ name!
