89 IROC 305?
Ok so I bought a 83 (305ci) firebird over the weekend with a blown head gasket, it also came with a 350 out of a 89 iroc camaro with .040 over pistons a comp cam edelbrook intake and comp cam, threw some research I found out that the block is an (14010201) 80-85 305 that is bored .040 over, needless to say I was very disappointed. So with the carb (Edelbrock 8867 1407) I have and the intake (Edelbrock Performer
2101 6396) what would be my best choice in power and cheapness? Would it be a wise choice to reuse these parts including my heads (GM 30 14014416) and purchase a used 350 block with .30-.40 over pistons (to eventually become a stroker) basically a short block with cam crank rods and pistons, and put the heads intake and carb off of my other engine onto it? Would those parts be interchangable? Also I have no idea what cam is in that 305 or if it is valuable or powerful at all, all I know is it is a comp cam.

Re: 89 IROC 305?
I am guessing your asking about blocks??. There is no reason to be disappointed about blocks unless one is cracked.Don't put much into a two bolt main over a four bolt main.In most cases a four bolt main isn't needed and many old four bolts cracked on the outer bolt holes. So I am saying blocks are neutral for most uses.Look for a roller 1996 and up short block to take a advantage of the roller cam.I promise you if your talking about a first gen engine stroker in the long term plan and your going to NOT try to cheap out on the parts, you best bet is to go right for a LX engine. As many yrs as I have been at this,it is a mistake I do regret.Dollar for dollar the LX is a better investment and is hard to beat dollar/hp.
