Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
Hi, I am looking at swapping a GM Goodwrench 350 longblock p/n 10076353 into my 84 T/A to replace the stock 305 (LG4).
I plan on reusing my stock ccQ-Jet, aircleaner, and EGR setup.
My LG4 intake was warped in the past and the water neck bolts have been helicoiled, so it would be best to go for a new intake.
I plan on running a fairly mild set up so I am just looking for something that can directly replace my LG4 intake and keep the stock hood clearances.
I am looking at the GMPP ZZ4 (#10185063) intake manifold and the Edelbrock Performer (#3701). Will these two give the me OEM clearances i am looking for?
Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
Well I asked this question on Edelbrocks Facebook page and received the following reply:
"If there is any difference in height it will be minimal within 1/4"."
So I think I should be OK going with the Performer...
Unfortunately I only have about 1/4-1/2" to play with before my aircleaner will hit my the bottom of my Strut tower bar... So I guess I'll still need to track down those dimensions. D'oh!

The ZZ4 intake is basically a 3701 with a GM logo (and GM price).
It will be about 1/4"-1/2" higher. Depends upon which carb base gasket you use.
If you want a LG4 intake in good condition, I've got a couple.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
Thanks for the reply five7kid. That 1/4"-1/2" is a bit too close for my liking. (With the factory carb, aircleaner, cowl induction, and the STB, clearances are pretty tight.)
I think I'll be going with an OEM LG4 or L69 intake manifold rather than risk and intereference issues. (I'm not trying to build the fastest car around, so performance isn't that big of an issue). If I cannot find a manifold locally I'll be in touch with you.
Thanks!

Hi five7kid, I was hoping I could get your opinion on this summit racing manifold... Any experience with them, or knowledge on how it compares to the stock one? Summit Racing SUM-226008.

Thanks again.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
Get the performer you wont be disappointed. They have been the most popular intake manifolds for a long time for a reason. Great fitment and great quality.
I prefer the RPM air gap but its going to be a little taller than what you would like.
I would stray away from summit's performer style intake. Mostly because summit puts their name on china made parts, some of them good some of them not. I have seen and installed some of the china made intake manifolds, while the general mold is the same I have run into issues with bolt holes not lining up 100% and lots of excess material in ports ect. They usually have a lower quality rougher finish as well, like some of the older edelbrock intakes.

I would take the Performer over the Summit or other cheaper alternatives. But, if a stock intake will do, there's not much reason to spend more on an aftermarket unit.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
I e-mailed both Edelbrock and Summitt about their intakes. According to Edelbrock the Performer should be within 1/4" of an inch of the stock intake manifold height. Summitt says that their SUM-226008 is exactly the same dimensions as OEM, so I think I'll give the Summit intake a try. Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
FYI, I went with the Summit Racing SUM-226008, it is infact stock height and fit perfectly.
The engine swap is done.

Re: Which Intake Manifold - 350 swap
Of course an engine swap is never done. As an FYI the stock throttle cable bracket that mounts to the intake manifold and holds the throttle and TV cables is not a direct swap/ fit with this manifold.
The factory throttle bracket needs to be bent to fit, I am not happy with this so I'll be modifying another original bracket to work. Summit Racing's bracket is not the nicest fit either.
