sensor location?

can anyone tell me where the oil pressure sensors go? iv only got 1 hole above my oil filter and on my old v6 i had to holes, one for the gauge and one for the fuel pump, i figured the gauge one went above the oil filter, and then the fuel pump would go down the side of the block towards the center? the coolent gauge sensor goes in the driver side head and the ecm temp sensor goes in the intake? does this sensor control the fan from the ecm? or could the gauge one do this aswell? and i cant find the white wire for the tach for my HEI distributer, i found one next to the power wire that is black with a white tracer, could this be it aswell?

Re: sensor location?

Are u using stock 87 wiring or some other like tbi harness or tpi? If so what year? Sbc should have a hole next to the distributor hole for a oil sensor but that may have just been for 86-up with F.I and center bolt heads. Depending on the wiring the fan will have a relay which will have a switched on controlled by the temp sensor on the head. But that is also going from memory on a v8 harness not the v6 stuff. I assume it is similar. As for tach signal just look up the pinout for your year and engine.

im using the stock v6 harness that came with my car, im using the edelbrock 2116 proformer intake for my vortec heads and it doesnt have a hole near the distributer for any sensor.

There's no oil in the intake, the hole is in the block.

thats what i said lol, where do they go? i know one has to go above the oil filter, i figured that would be the sensor for the gauge, but what about my fuel pump oil pressure sensor?

Doesn't matter so long as both are into the oil galleries.Corvettes have both at top in the block
Do both units have the same thread size?
The hole above the filter on a SBC is usually larger (1/4" NPT ) while the one at back of the block is 1/8" so that may dictate which one goes where

Since you have a carb now how are you wiring the fuel pump?
If not running pump through the OP switch then you don't need it ; just plug the hole

I believe the threads are the same size on both opsu, but as far as the fuel pump goes I was running it through my 2 prong opsu and leaving my ECM in place.

You don't need the ECU with a carb.
Wire the pump directly to the OP switch ( which is not connected to the computer anyway )
As soon as you crank the engine over ,the pump will run and stay running so long as engine has oil pressure
Exactly the same as the stock circuit diagram shown below but without the pump relay
( which is controlled by the computer ) in place
