swapping in an older engine. hit a snag.
How's it going, everyone? I've been lurking here for about a month since I picked up my 91 RS. It developed (probably already had
) a rod knock after a few days of owning it, but I love the damn thing so i decided to keep her alive, which brings me to my question.
I am doing this swap on a budget, and after the local boneyard failed me, I was able to locate a 305 from an 86 el camino on craigslist. I believe it's an LG4. My question is, I want to keep the TBI, can i just bolt the intake/TBI setup from my old engine on to the "new" one, or is there more involved? I have everything bolted up, and it all fits where it should; I should be finishing up and firing her up tomorrow so I guess I'll update if anyone is interested. Should I expect it to work or should I just throw the carb back on?
Thanks in advance, this forum seems awesome and i will definitely be a frequent poster!
Edit: I will get some pics of the car up when I get them off my phone.

it will work just fine, although the ecm would like a differant cam, but all in all it will work.

Thanks! I'll put some pics up when i sort this nightmare out lol. I've been around these cars quite a few times but never owned one. I got it for under 1000 bucks and the body has almost no rust/dents, and after looking up some of my RPO's I couldn't bear to get rid of it. The interior has seen better days but a few trips to the junk yard should spruce it up until i can afford some quality plastic.

Little update. Got the engine almost done. Had to run some tranny fluid in the oil to take care of a lifter problem, but she runs damn strong. Having a little problem with it not wanting to idle in gear though, still trying to figure that out. But so far, so good!
