Spitfire/marshall engines
Was in autozone yesterday getting batteries for the truck andd conversed over an hour about their remaned engines. Their computer showed EVERYTHING was new-not just bad stuff replaced-except block. Marshall engines wer $400 to $500 more. Anyone had dealings with autozone/advance/oreilly's engines?

Re: Spitfire/marshall engines
I bought a PROformance engine through AZ for my F350. It runs awesome, it came with square port heads over the stock round port. Has a little more grunt. I really cannot complain and it even came with a warranty. Ive read a few horror stories on here about marshals with mismatched heads and whatnot. Theyre all refinished blocks and heads. New bearings, rings, seals, etc. I think that it was an overall good investment; but as i said, ive heard a few iffy things about the marshals and surefire brands.

If you just want something that will work stuff like that is fine.

Re: Spitfire/marshall engines
I had them look up a 350 for 79 Vette thinking it would have more performance and it listed 325 HP. What kinda performance would that engine give me with factory T-5 and 273 rears? Also, checked and it costs half what Jaspers and others!

Re: Spitfire/marshall engines
Theres a thread somewhere here on the forum where a guy tore apart a marshalls engine. Do a search for it and judge for yourself. Id go surefire over them. I work for AZ and have sold a number of them. None have come back for warranty and seem to be good quality for a stock application.

Looking back I meant Surefire not Spitfire. Now that you mention it seems like I remember reading a long thread on Marshalls. Didn't that thread say Marshalls was by another name that had a bad reputation?

Re: Spitfire/marshall engines
Anything before 1987 is mostly crap. There are some that are less crap, but dont get fooled into thinking that old stuff is better. 1973-1983 is probably the worst of the worst of the v8s.
325 hp is VERY generous. It's a BS marketing rating using open headers and a perfect tune on a perfect intake without the engine turning any accessories. When you put it in your car and it has to turn its own alternator and water pump and deal with a real world intake manifold, you're probably only going to see 175hp plus or minus 25 depending on a lot of factors, including whether they gave a darn about building the motor right for power.

Wow. That's good info! So, I would be better off finding/asking them about say an 88 vette engine?
Re: Spitfire/marshall engines
Time to wake up.Stop thinking you get the same thing when you spend less money as when you spend more.Ask about he brand names of the parts your buying inside the engine and post that.It costs money to do any mods on cars.

Haft of these YAHOOS really don't want to be involved in cars. They as I posted on another thread should just quit it and either sell the car and parts they have or leave the car as it is.Everytime they don't want to spend what it takes.Sick of it,all of it.They need to quit and
