It's around 20 bucks a cylinder to bore. Came bearings cost around 30 to install. Depending on parts used/needed/brand will greatly vary your cost. Could be possible but you may just get basic minimal repairs. What does his quote show for parts?

You can get just about the absolute cheeeeeeeeeeeeeepest dirtiest most garbage possible rebuild on a SBC for that.
It will not be "performance", there will be no attention to detail, it will be mass-produced, it will use the cheeeeeeepest of the cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep for every part, it will NOT fix the problems old cars usually have (poor gas mileage, smoke at startup, leaks, etc.), it will disappoint.
First mistake is "rebuilding" a 305 short block AT ALL. It costs MORE to rebuild a 305 than a 350; meaning, if you were to go to yer local buzzard and put him off his carrion long enough to find a 350 carcass, the cost of THAT PLUS REBUILDING IT would almost certainly be LESS THAN "rebuilding" a 305. DON'T REBUILD A 305 short block.
But the first thing we should talk about is, why do you think your short block needs to be "rebuilt", in the first place?
