Engine swap 305 to 350
Engine swap 305 to 350
I have a 82 Z28 that I've gone old school on. Narrowed 9" with 16x32x15 tires all underneath. 350 with edelbrock carb and a fuel cell. All of the computer stuff has been removed. I see on the old 305 that it had a oil/fuel pressure sending unit. How can I get the oil pressure gauge to work and also get power to the fuel pump?

This must have been a cross fire car originally.
The oil pressure gauge sending unit shouldn't have been disturbed removing the computer stuff.
Without the computer, you will have to rig up a relay to power the fuel pump. If you didn't remove the factory relay, then you need to either put a switch to it, or redo it so it is powered by the ignition switch.

Thanks five7kid and you are right it did have a cross fire. Unfortunatly the plug for the oil pressure gauge was on the engine computer harness and the switch was a three prong compared to a one. I was hoping to utilize the old harness that ran to the back of the car for the fuel pump and the fuel gauge. When I started to wire the new motor up is when I noticed the different switch. I had a 72 vega that had a switch like that that shut the fuel pump off when the ohms/pressure dropped.

the 3 pronged switch is a saftey thing for the fuel pump. the other 2 prongs on the switch were wired into the fuel pump relay as sort of a by pass. it was used to power the fuel pump in the event the relay failed, but the engine still had oil pressure. you can replace it with a regular 1 wire oil pressure sender and wire the oil pressure gauge wire that should be coming out of the driver side bulk head connector to it and the gauge will work like normal. you should be able to find a pin out of that bulk head connector for your specific year to find the oil pressure gauge wire.
