Transplanted a vortec crate with ED3817..bypass?

Did a search but came up empty, and the directions on the paper for the TPI Intake were pretty bad. There is a water jacket access on the top of the intake by the distributor, and one on the front of the intake with what appears to be another NPT fitting on the right side with a 1/8th inch hole, down and to the right of the thermostat if looking straight at the engine.

Which gets NPT and jacketed, and where does it get routed to? I drilled a few 1/8th holes in the old stat to test, but its too much water movement and it runs too cool. I know the crossover is to circulate water in just the block, and I want to make this happen. Should I T up the rear jacket on the intake to the front jacket using those two holes?

The transplant was into an 85 Corvette, using the Vette pump and all that.

Plug the rear one ( was only used on Alum head L98's as a steam vent )
I believe the small hole on the front you are talking about is a threaded bolt hole ; not a coolant port

So with a Vortec motor and this hi-flo TPI intake I don't have to put in a crossover tube?

NOPE....The bypass on a TPI engine is through the throttle body and heater diverter valve back to the radiator.

Alright, so if I bypassed the valve/heater core I'm still good? Howcome you supposedly have to crossover the RAMJET engine?

Are you are talking about the WATER PUMP bypass on Vortec blocks , not the intake?

"Any small block engine, regardless of year, that uses Vortec heads, will require an external coolant bypass line from the intake manifold to the 5/8" hose nipple on the water pump (passenger’s side). Suggested routing is from the 3/8 NPSF boss on intake manifold to the water pump."

Yes, I supposed I needed the coolant/water pump bypass on the edelbrock hi flo tpi base, or am I still not needing it? If I do have to run one on this intake I have no idea where it is.

On a Vortec block you are SUPPOSED to have a external connection between the intake and the water pump.
Achieved by
1. a hose from the intake side of the pump to the intake manifold as done on the Vortec from the factory
2. a line from the intake to the heater core back to the pump inlet
3.Drilling bypass holes in the stat

FWIW
My 500Hp 383 has a Vortec block with a non Vortec waterpump and a drilled thermostat and it has no cooling problems

Any of the ports on the intake that are before the stat

huh.. looks like i did it wrong on both of the vortec headed small blocks that i've run by just blocking the extra threaded hole in the front of the intake manifold.. these were both old school small blocks- an 87 350 out of a Caprice and an 86 305 out of another Caprice- with the old style water pumps... if i was running a vortec block with a vortec water pump, i'd run the bypass to the water pump..

Gotcha, now, before I tear back into stuff... the water passing through the throttle body/heater core is/is not a bypass in the TPI system?

Vortec crate, 85 corvette water pump, no heater valve, stock TPI system
