Rebuild it like you want, bolt on the intake to match you rebuild, Install any sbc or bbc dist and install. Manifold pattern is the same and dist's will fit. Only bad(or good depending on cam) is the non adjustable valve train. It can be converted to adjustable. Several threads on swapping bbc into Camaro's. Not hard

A simple large cap HEI is a self contained distributor. All it needs is a good ignition power source to work.

Is the vortec a non adjustable valve train? I thought only the Gen V engine had non adjustable.

Other than switching from EFI to carb and using a non computer controlled distributor, dropping in a 7.4 Vortec is no different than dropping in any other BBC into a third gen. There's just a lot less sensors that you'll need without a computer.

The fuel pump should be different, the '96-'00 Vortec 7400 should need 38+ psi, where the '90-'95 was TBI, and that was like 12 psi. Before '90 should be carb, IIRC, and that should be 3-5 psi. The oil pump should be fully interchangeable from '65-'00, as I understand it.
