I am going to buy a 350, from who?
Long story short I finally determined that my 305 is not really worth fixing for the dollar so I am going to buy a 350 (will look into the 383 as well) but I don't know whom to buy it from so I am here hoping that the experts here can point me in a good direction. I talked to someone from http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/ and got a $1750.00 figure on a 350 long block but I did not get into to much details other than I was looking for number at that point.

Look at the crate engines/long blocks that jegs and summit carry. They'll give you exactly what they say and probably a better warrenty.

Yeah I just got off the phone with them and the guy told me that I would also have to buy a new intake, carb and flex plate per what I have on my 305 will not work with it (that caught me off guard) so were pushing $2500 for the 290 hp engine (2000 g's 260hp)

my suggestion: talk to local machine shops and see what they can build for you... you can get a lot more motor for a lot less money that way, and if there is a problem you can talk to the guy that put it together..

Intake and carb should be OK, flexplate will depend on the rear main seal. Yours in a one-piece, it depends on whether the 350 is one or two.

you don't need to change the carb and intake unless you are building something with more than 400hp, and the flexplate will swap over as long as it's an 86 and newer crank.

I have been bouncing around on all these ideas since the day I found out that the dude I bought the car from pulled a fast one and managed to slip the fact that the 305 main bearing was spun, well the front 2 for that matter so I am skeptical on finding a used 350 but have not gave up entirely

You CAN swap the intake and carb over, but you wont let the engine run at full potential. They sell complete engines (from carb to oil pan) that you can buy. Obviously it will cost more but you wont need to buy any other parts, it wil come completely assembled.

I finally found a complete 350 today for $250 so I am just going to rebuild it and look into the possibility of boring it to a 383.

If you are going to a 383 youll need a whole new rotating assembly and all the machine work done. So youre looking around $1500, just so you know. Theres nothing worse than starting a project you cant finish.

Did I leave anything out???.
It's a common mistake I see guys making all too often leaving way too much on the table!!!.
BTW-if that is your line of thinking, save the stroker money and apply it to a matched overhead for a 355.
