350 from a 91 GMC Jimmy to a 92 Firebird

I am going to be parting out my 91 GMC Jimmy. It has a 350 TBI in it. I want to put it in my car. My car currently has a 305 TBI. Do I need anything other than the computer and motor?

Re: 350 from a 91 GMC Jimmy to a 92 Firebird

Also, I'd love to hear some feedback as to what I should do for mods. I don't want to go too crazy, as this vehicle is my daily driver. I'd like to do intake, headers, exhaust, cam and chip. I've also heard to run 305 heads. Is this true? Or not worth the effort? I will be tearing the 350 down and getting it balanced and rebuilt. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Damian.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

You may need to reuse your 305 flexplate and starter. Trucks, I believe, had 168-tooth (14") flexplates, while 3rd gens used 153-tooth (~12.75"). Check what the 350 has on it.

305 heads, IMO, are not worth it. You may want to check out the "Budget 350" sticky in the TBI forum. Starts with a Vortec engine - you can just do Vortec heads on your 350 and go from there.

Full exhaust upgrade is a must. The factory LO3 exhaust is horrible. If you get headers, cat, cat-back for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application, you'll be in good shape.

Thank you. I might just port and polish the stock 350 heads I have. Any recommendations on intake and cam? I don't want anything too lumpy.

have you pulled it down to see if this is a roller block ? You will need good manifold vacuum to retain tbi .

No I haven't. I wouldnt see an issue with retaining the TBI seeing as both motors have it, and came stock with it.
