305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
So i have a 1986 camaro Z28 IROC Z that i swapped engines in. i switched a 305 for a 350 everything went well i replaced the injectors the prom the knock sensor havent replaced the esc module yet but today was the first day we started and it started up fairly easy and idled but when i hit the gas it would die almost instantly. then it wouldn't start at all it would turn over and it was getting gas as well a spark so here are some things that we did.
1. i have an 86 corvette so i took the computer and prom and put it in my camaro.
2. it wouldnt start after i had changed the computer to the stock one and kept the prom from the corvette.
3. we tried starting it with the stock comp and prom in it and same thing just was not igniting.
4. havent changed the ESC module yet.
5. did the little test that shorts the computer and turns on the fan and the service engine light blinks a number of times to tell you whats wrong and it said that the anti theft device was on or there is a short somewhere.
So i couldnt find anything on the anti theft device for this year or something that even mentioned this car having one!
So if anyone has any ideas as to what it might be please help me!!!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Exactly what error codes were you getting? '86 3rd gen f-body doesn't have anti-theft, although I don't know about an '86 Corvette.
The ESC module shouldn't keep it from starting.
How did you verify you're getting fuel and spark?

The 86 vette memcal has vats enabled, When you said its getting fuel is that checked with a fuel pressure gauge ? Have you checked for injector pulse with a noid light ?
If you have injector pulse sounds like your ignition timing is way off.

Not saying you have the same issue, but check the distributor timing and that the rotor is spinning. I condemned my ECU before I found out the distributor gear was striped and had jumped time. I had fuel and spark but there was no way the engine would start with the timing so far off.

Re: 305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
we got the error codes that say anti theft system was active or on. The check check engine light would blink 1 then 2 three times and then show the error code of 4 and 6.
We checked for spark by taking one of the plug wires and running a wire to it and watching it spark when we touched the frame. And for fuel we checked to see if there was fuel in the fuel rails by loosening a bolt. dont have a noid light but all i can say is that we had it started and it idled but nothing after i changed the computer just incase something is off about this car how do i reset the error message? or if anyone has any other ideas and as for timing we didnt loosen it enough to jump that far foward but ill check.

The corvette memcal has it enabled so that would throw a 46 malf, The car would start with the 305 memcal. Use a noid light the ecm controls the grounding for injector pulse when it receives DRP from the purple and white wire of the icm.

Re: 305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
Assume you are using the non vats 305 memcal, if the ecm is receiving DRP and the ecm/ injector ground is good behind the passenger cylinder head the injectors will pulse above 400 rpm. If you have a shorted injector they will shut down the injector driver anything below 12-12.5 ohms. Good coils will be 16-16.5 ohms.

Re: 305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
Tring to start it now you are using the 305 86 memcal ? the purple/white wire from the ignition control module is your 5v reference square wave tach signal to pin B5 of your ecm.
memcals are identified with there 3 to 4 letters on the top called a broadcast code.

Re: 305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
Since the 86 f-body doesn't have vats, you might try that memcal in your vette ecm . Im Sure you have already tried that out. the ecm is powered up since you can enter field service mode. Now its down to bad ground or bad icm or a open or short on the purple and white wire from the icm to the ecm. The injector ground is pin D3 of your ecm blk/white.
Even if the memcal was faulty it would still pulse the injectors in limp home mode.
You can allways rob the icm from the vette if you are still using the hei coil in cap.

Re: 305 to 350 swap problem!!!!!
how would you go about testing the injector ground as was anything else that needs to be tested?
