I have a 1986 camaro with a 2.8 liter v6 and I'm trying to figure out if a modern 3800 series 2 V6 will mount without modifications to the motor mounts.

No, it will not. Custom mounts will need to be fabricated.

A 3.4L will drop right in from a 93-95 F-body. You will have to use the external parts from the old 2.8L. Go to the V6 boards and read the stickies or search for "3.4L swap boogie". I did this swap about 10 years ago. Pretty easy and no modifications to anything. Pull the 2.8, swap parts to the 3.4, drop the 3.4 in.
