Sorry to hear about the downgrade. With respect to your throttle bracket, I would recommend that you just get a new throttle cable that's designed to work with a carb, and buy an appropriate bracket. There are plenty of throttle cable brackets available for GM applications for every popular carb style.

Why the **** would you swap out a Tuned Port 305 for a carbed 283 from 1963?! That thing probably puts out 140 net HP, if that.

Sure. Just add some 5" bias ply tires for full effect.

As TERRIBLE as a 305 TPI usually is, I guess sometimes we gotta step back in time (at least, those of us who weren't there at the time, would have to take the step back), and remember that our grandpas had it EVEN WORSE.

Common-sensical thing to do (besides INCREASING your cubes, instead of DECREASING) would be to simply get a stock bracket off of a carbed car with a 700; about anything 83-87 should do the trick. Car, truck, Caprice, Camaro, makes no difference. Quick trip to yer local buzzard nest, it'll all be cured.

Get the throttle cable while you're at it.
