Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Yes it does. Reading more into it I think the module will be working properly but I have not changed the pins from 91 c100 to 85 c207. For the fuel pump. So in the 91c100 pin g4 does that just get connected to pin D in 85 c207? It's a big tan wire with white stripe.

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

From Post #23

The wire from the relay to the FP in the 85 runs thru C207 ( Pin D, Dash-to-ECM harness on pass side) then thru the 85 Body narness to the fuel tank.

The wire from the relay to the FP on the 91 runs thru C100 ( Pin G4, Dash-to Engine ) then thru the 91 Dash/Body harness to the tank.

You will need connect everything together properly before the FP will work as designed.

Just wondering then if I jump the wire from the 91 c100 g4 to the c207? Will that do the trick?

Do you think it would also work if I wire the fuel pump to a toggle? That way I can have a nice hidden kill switch.

You can but I would still use a relay controlling a larger current draw.

So if I switch the pin outs like I said I would technically get power to the fuel pump but is that what's stopping me from having injector pulse aswell?

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

If you haven't installed a modulated hz signal or the passkey that will stop the ecm from controlling the injectors.
you will stil have the 2 second prime with ecm control on the dark green/white A 11 wire to the fp relay.

Does that still matter now that I have the 85 steering column? And what is a modulated hz signal? I have great crank and the light on the injector is on when you first crank but goes out and doesn't pulse.

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

I can't recall if the frequency is 30 or 50hz from the bypass you purchased. IIRC its 30hz. You can check to make sure the ecm is getting the signal with a ohm meter if you have the hz function. Or see koeo if you have 2.5 vdc on the ecm vats input wire. Either your missing DRP or vats or the ecm isn't powered up

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Wire the Fuel relay & pump as we've described to you. Do not put it on a toggle,... stop screwing around and do it right.

Got battery power from INJ FUSEs 1 & 2 to your Fuel injectors ??

Have you modified your C207 at all yet ?? If you didn't re-pin / re-wire C207 yet ??

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Hey guys! First of all thanks john for slapping me around lol. The re wiring is going well so far! Only question I have now is I am looking for a connecting diagram for the harness on the 85 that's beside c207 and c227. There are 3 harnesses in my 85 got c207 and c227 figured out but there is a black 6 pin connector that my mechanic is requesting a diagram for. Thanks so much tuned and john!!! You guys are the best

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Hope I didn't come off TOO strong there,.... you just had a lot of info already and need to act on what was here already in order for us not to cover the same ground over and over again. It's good to hear that your making progress !!

If the 6-pin connector that your talking about is right next to the 85's C207,... you probably mean the C221 plug. ( not present on 91 harness. ) The "important" wires there are your Fuel Injector wires.....

Plug C221

A Pnk/Blk Inj2 Fuse / Even Fuel Injectors
B Lt Green Back Up Switch / BU Lights ( V6-T5 )
C Brn Fuel Pump-Fan Fuse / Fan Relay ( V6 - TPI )
D Pnk/Blk Inj1 Fuse / Odd Fuel Injectors
E
F Dk Blue Back Up Fuse / Back Up Switch ( V6-T5 )

The INJ1 and INJ2 wires on the 1985 C221 will need to connect to the 91 C207 harness. Not sure how you are dealing with the Fan or if your reverse lights will need to be spliced......

Here is the 90-92 C207:

PIN Color From / To (Notes)
A Brown ( TBI )
B* Pnk (Red) INJ1 TBI (TBI)
B* Pnk/Blk INJ1 (V6 / TPI)

C Brn/Wht ECM / CE Light
D Grey Speed ECM to Cluster (Not with TBI)
E Wht/Blk ALDL (pin B) / ECM (test)
F Pnk/Blk ECM fuse / ECM
G* Pink/Blk (white) INJ2 TBI (TBI)
G* Pnk/Blk (INJ2 V6 TPI)

H* Tan/Blk ALDL / TCC-ECM (auto)
H* Tan/Blk ALDL / Upshift (stick)
J Org ALDL (pin E) / ECM
K Brown ECM / Buffer (Only TBI)
L Drk Blue Vats to ECM
M Org Interior Lights
N Org/Blk ECM / P/N switch
P Red Speed Sensor (Not with TBI)
R Ppl/Wht Crank Fuse / Cold Start-(only TBI)

Yet another small step forward,..... I bet your really looking forward to this summer ! ( Me too ! )

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

I can definatly take constructive criticism not even an issue! I have a new mechanic that is dealing with my electrical. He is bypassing some of the pins in c100 and going directly to the PCM from what I understand. But this guy likes his diagrams! We initially took the injector pins from the c207 on the 91 and c221 on 85 pink wires as you highlighted and connected them to see if we got injector pulse, didn't work as planned but he seems pretty confident that he will get it running. I have the vats bypass connected aswell. There are 2 six pin connectors on the 85 that we're a little confused to which ones those are. I have identified the c221 without a doupt but the second connecter I'm a bit lost. If you got my pic it's the one on the far right. Again thanks so much for helping me out! Super excited to hear this engine roar!!

Yup,....Guess I should have looked at the pic !!

I wouldn't toss the relay, that's 'one of those parts' that guys still running an 85 TPI can't find too easy when they need a replacment. Not really a high value part; but it is one that's hard to find when needed.

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Hey again lol. Figured I would ask the pros on this one here cause I'm having troubles understanding the diagrams for my fog lights. I have a 3 pin male connecter labeled h,j,k that I found loose under the steering column. I found the purple wire (j) in c100 so no biggy but just wondering where the 2 brown wires go if anyone knows?

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

So I figured I ask one more time here. As of next week the car will be shipped to a high performance shop out of town where I'll most likely be charged an arm and leg to get running. Just wondering if there's anything that I have overlooked here on getting injector pulse? Pin outs are wired, vats bypass installed. Still no pulse. Is there any other scenarios that could be causing it? Or is it worth getting the PCM shipped out and looked at? Definatly not cut and dry with the rewiring of all the lights and fans etc. I think the diagrams on Austin's third gen diagrams are mainly camaros and have no info on the 85 headlight doors and fog lights etc. don't mean to vent, you guys have been awesome help!! Just my one last gasp of air before I throw in the towel

That's AWESOME !

Glad to hear that you were able to work thru the bugs and glitches and got to enjoy the Summer 14' behind the wheel !! Many times people literally can't (or simply don't) "keep at" a project and fail to overcome the problems they encounter. ( there's ALWAYS a "problem", often more than 1 !! )

Great to hear that your Pontiac is back on the street again; Looks great !!

Re: 85 trans am help with TPI

Yeah it was definatly a hard fought battle being my first fuel injected build knowing nothing about how it works. Learned tons!! Quite suprised how great it ran all summer. Within the first couple days I fried the starter I thought "here we go again" but no other issues other then it dies randomly when stopping happens maybe once a week tops. Just out of nowhere. Start it back up and good to go haha Probably needs to get tuned would be my guess or possibly throttle sensor? Also could use a good shift improvement kit. Things to do over the off season by far my favorite car. And without your guys fantastic help I would never have got that sweet machine back to life now I need to search for my next favorite year (84) and build another to add to my collection. I ended up installing the full pinstripe kit on the car but still deciding if I should top off the hood with the screaming chicken lol
