Looking for Expierenced opinions

Greetings All,
Being new to the firebird world in general I have started to prep my newly acquired 86 bird for her return to the living world. She currently has a 2.8 V6 that soon after I got it to run and took her out on the road to blow out the dust she hydro-locked.

SO I have decided to upgrade her to something more deserving of her looks. Do you think this Package is worth the price?

Re: Looking for Expierenced opinions

Welcome Aboard !

Myself.....There's no way I'd pay that kind of money for a 120 k used engine-trans that I couldn't hear/see run, Let alone it having to be shipped with only a 30 day warranty. Then if their "professional dismantlers" missed something you'd be paying truck freight back.

If you want to upgrade, I'd suggest finding something local to you.....

Re: Looking for Expierenced opinions

I would not pay that for a T.P.I motor for that kind of money you are in the LT1/4.8/5.3 range maybe ever cheaper with better capabilities for hp.
How much are you wanting to spend on a swap?

Re: Looking for Expierenced opinions

Greetings, Thanks for the Welcome!
Thanks for the responses.
I am looking to stay under 2k for the swap, this package impressed me simply for the complete Motor/Tranny/Harness/ECM package. As for in my reading here on the forums I have learned that a complete swap seems it would be easier in the long run when changing from a 2.8 V6 to a V8. The same seller has other package motors in his listings with fewer miles and same included for a bit more. I was looking at the lowest price package as I planned to do a rebuild on the motor and tranny before installing and wanted to save a bit to put towards the rebuild kits.

Also this seller is less than a 2 hour drive from my home so I could go there and see what he has before making any decisions or purchases.

Re: Looking for Expierenced opinions

You asked for opinions ...

to put $1700 into a firebird along with a lot of knuckle busting - not worth it.
If you like swapping engines and all that - then go for it.

But IMO I would Sell the bird, add $1700(what you would have put into it) to what you get, and go buy a GTA or IROC w/a 350 in it, in the long run either would be worth more, they are out there for
$2500 to 3K.

I paid $2600 for my 90 Iroc Vert, needs work but the bones were there, had good compression ... Sometimes low mileage ones that just need interior and paint ...

But it is up to you in the end, sometimes sentiment value makes us blind.
