Transmission for 350 engine swap

I have an 87 Camaro I am restoring. Initially it came with a 305 4bbl w/ 5spd transmission. I am currently working on building up a 350 to swap into it. I have been reading a lot on forums that the 5 speed transmission in the car is not good for a 350. I would like to stick to the 5 speed and not have to go to an automatic. Is there any transmission i can swap into it thats a manual that can withstand the power of the 350 I am going to be putting into it? Or is there any way to reinforce or make the manual that came in it stronger to withstand the power of the 350? If anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Thank you.

The most common swap is a T56 six-speed manual from a 4th gen. The T5 should be good up to about 300 hp if you don't abuse it.

Re: Transmission for 350 engine swap

The t56 is the most common swap. You could always try a Muncie 4-speed, the old M22 rockcrushers were pretty stout.

Re: Transmission for 350 engine swap

A lot of guys have put plenty of miles on their 350, T5 combo. It seems what kills them are lots of drag time, super sticky tires and missing third.

Re: Transmission for 350 engine swap

I was flipping thru a JEGS catalog earlier and stumbled across this little beauty. If I'm reading it right, should bolt in place of a T-5, probably doesn't have a provision for a torque arm or exhaust mount, but you should be able to relocate them to the cross member.

Here is the link to JEGS
