Engine recommendations
In order to make this swap simple can anyone recommend an engine for my 85 TA that would: 1. Bolt to my 96 T56 and 2. accept my tpi setup. I don't mind changing some parts to make this happen, just don't want to reinvent the wheel. Thanks.

So you want a SBC. That was easy
Fwiw, a ls1 used a t56 and a tuned port injection intake, which is a much better platform. The runner design is essentially inverted version of the classic TPI induction

That's one way to go. But then the current t56 wont bolt in and I need to change the k member. Im looking for ease. As of limited time and resources. Thanks anyhow.

Axle/Gears: 12B-3.73/9"-3.89
You need a one-piece RMS crank and '86-earlier intake bolt pattern.
'86 truck 350, or '86-up Vette L98 fit the bill.
Anything else will be missing one or the other.

Yeah I am. I am not the most expierenced out here and want more outta my car, with ease. I know nothing worthwhile is easy, but I don't want a long complicated build that ultimately makes my car unserviceable. I like the L98 vette idea. I am also looking at the LT1 option, as in all lt1 not with my tpi. Any advise is great. Thanks .

If you're willing to swap in a full LT1, that would seem to make the most sense.

I really think that's how im going to go. After reading a lot on here lately that seems the best and easiest solution. Just gotta keep reading to learn a bit more about the computer/harness swap deal. Ive read about guys using a Painless harness and the people splicing their LT1 with their tpi harness. Not sure which way to go. And if you do splice the 2 together which computer do you install? im guessing the LT1 one. Just want to do a little more research before I start getting parts and hit a dead end. Thanks for all the advise so far.

In my opinion, the best way to go is to get the complete engine/PCM/harness from a donor vehicle (since you already have the T56). You'll have to splice in the interfaces to the chassis, which will completely eliminate the 3rd gen ECM. That is the easiest, least expensive, and most functional way to go about it - in my opinion.

I agree with you. I am going to go this way hopefully late spring early summer. After all ou your help it does sound easiest with the most gain. And at least I know I will have somewhere to go for help along the way.
