350 to 383 Stroker Father and Son Build
Back Story:
First, thank you for taking your time to help me. If you can tell me everything I need to know, I'll buy you a beer ;D Last year, I bought a 1990 Iroc-Z convertible with a 305 and a 700R4 and I LOVE driving it. The speedo only works every now and again, and since it's my daily driver, it destroys gas. I'm getting a fuel sipping 4-banger car soon, and the Camaro is becoming a decoration in the garage. My dad is a mechanic, and he said I can use the spare 350 in the garage along with the 4-speed muncie he had on his Iroc-Z years ago. They both need rebuilt, but they should both work fine. I know very little about auto mechanics, as I am only a home builder/remodeler. I just want to get a list of everything that I'll need to transform my 90 Iroc with a 305 to a 383 stroker 500hp+ monster.
The Meat:
If you didn't read the back story, I have a spare 350 and a 4-speed muncie tranny.
What parts do I need to make it a 450hp+ 383 stroker (before supercharger)?
What transmission would you recommend since the muncie isn't recommended for over 400hp applications?
What supercharger kit is recommended for this build? (Preferably less than $2,500)
Can a 383 be fuel injected? (With different injectors than the 305's)
Will the whole project cost over $8,000?
Including 383 parts and rebuild kit, a tranny, supercharger and engine machining?
If any of these questions make me look like an idiot, I understand, but I'm not an auto mechanic. My dad is busy lately, and I just want to understand what all has to go in to this project before we start buying things.

Re: 350 to 383 Stroker Father and Son Build
Is the 350 you are building a 1 piece Rear Main Seal (RMS) or 2 piece? That will determine which crank (kit) you need.
A 1 piece RMS block will also be a factory roller cam, which will go a long, inexpensive way to making more HP, than a flat tappet cam (less HP potential), or an retrofit roller cam (more $$).
AFR 195 heads add $1600 to the bill. You will probably want the 75cc version to keep compression lower for the 383ci, and especially if you add a blower.
That depends on how much you have to buy new, vs used, vs bro deals, vs bartering. See what you have. Make a list of what you need. Add realistic price tags to that shopping list and add it up. I am not a good bargain hunter/finder, so would cost me $8k just for the engine. But, other guys here talk about doing the same for $1500.

Get the cylinders bored out on your 350, the heads can be bored out also which gives more air flow, go to (enginekits.com part number 383SK), everyone is going to throw out their opinions on parts, brand names etc..the fact is since this is your first build there's chances things won't work out or give you what you are looking for so I would try bartering/buying nice used items so you can learn on those first and when you want to replace them for higher end items you can do with our remorse.

A blower build is different to a 450 +Hp NA build

There are a 1001 383 builds documented on line with dyno results and parts lists. All he has to do is select one that suits his requirements and budget
For the output he thinks he wants he is going need quality aftermarket heads as mentioned above
