Vortec 350
Vortec 350
Need a little help. I am going to swap the 305 TPI in my 1991 z28 convertible for a 350. Scoggins Dickens is selling a new vortec 350 for $2,109.00 (shipping included) with a TPI base intake for another $348.00. TRi-Star engines is selling a re-manufactured OEM 350 for $2,250.00 (this included shipping and core charge). What engine do you guys recommend? I will not be racing the car but do want a little get up and go.

Re: Vortec 350
Because the vortec 350 is not a factory replacement to my 305, Scoggins is only offering a 1 year/12k miles warranty. Tri-Star's engine is a remanufactured TPI 350. Will a vortec, being that is a truck-based engine, have good performance compared to a car-based 350? Also, other than the TPI base plate, a 350 prom, knock sensor and larger injectors, will the vortec engine work in my car?

I have one from summit, no good from the get go. did not break in correctly, about 30,000 miles now, needs a rebuild, uses oil like a sonofabitch. but runs o.k.
