82 Camaro I4 to V8 swap
Hi everyone, this is my first time ever posting in any sort of forum, so please bear with me. I have a base model 82 Camaro I got for very cheap, it originally came with the inline 4 cylinder that was fuel injected. It came with a 200c transmission originally. The car came with a 700r4 trans(which I am going to use), a 350 block, 350 distributor, 350 water pump, and radiator( I won't be using any of these). I found a built 350 on CL for relatively cheap that I am going to buy here soon. I know that I will have to get a driveshaft from an 84 or above Camaro that came with a 700r4, which i have already ordered. My main two questions are: Will I have to get a wiring harness for the 350(It will be carb), if so could anyone point me in the right direction to find one that is compatible with the 82, and secondly the motor mounts that are in there now are for the inline 4 that is no longer in there. I am assuming i will have to get motor mounts for a 350 but my question is am I able to get motor mounts for any 350 or will i have to get them from a certain car? Thank you to anyone that is able to help me, and like I said this is my first time posting in a forum so please bear with me

Welcome to TGO. Good luck with your project.
Just go to any parts store and buy new engine mounts for any 1982-92 camaro/firebird with a V8 (305 or 350). They are all the same and will bolt right in. Your car already has the mount holes on Kmember (frame crossmember) for the 4, 6 and 8 cylinder mounts. Un bolt your 4cyl mounts and put new V8 mounts in right place and bolt up. The new mounts are $30 or less.
Not hard to do but does take some time as it's pretty tough to get a socket/wrench up inside the K member to put on and tighten nuts. Have a wobble joint, extensions of diff lenghts, wrenches, etc handy. I even took an old wrench and bent it to about a 35* angle to help with this chore.
If your going with a carb and HEI dist. your stock 4 cylinder wiring harness will work with some slight mods.
The carb V8 only needs a hand full of wires to run/work.

Yeah if it's a fuel injection car then the fuel pump will be an in tank elec. unit running at 15 psi or so (not 100% sure on the psi). Most carbs can only handle 4.5 to 6.5 psi with 5 to 5.5 psi being most common. Above that pressure the fuel pushes the needles out of the seats in the carb and causes major flooding, fuel over flowing out of carb, etc.
There's a few ways to reach your end goal.
If the stock in take elec fuel pump has a high enough volume (GPH, gallons per hour) to support the power of the V8 your planning to swap in then you can just use a good high pressure type adjustable fuel pressure reg. w/ gauge and just dail the pressure down to the needed 5 psi.
The stock 4 cyl elec pump will NOT support any V8 you would swap in though.. So move to other ways.
Of course you could always add a V8 in tank pump and do the same as above with pressure reg.
Or you could replace the sender/pickup in the fuel tank with one from a carb'ed third gen F body and use a block mounted mech. fuel pump
Or you could pull sender out of tank, measure the length of the elec. fuel pump, cut you a length of steel hard line the same size as the pump, remove pump and replace with the length of hard line. You can use compression fittings or a small 1" or so length of rubber fuel line and a couple hose clamps to hook your hard line up to the hard line of the pickup/sender. Then use a block mounted mech. fuel pump

This part right here says it's not compatible with my engine but it says it's compatible with an 82 firebird with the exact same engine so i'm assuming this will work
Would these work?

Re: 82 Camaro I4 to V8 swap
No that's a dead head low pressure fuel reg. It will only handle like 9 or 10 psi. They may be better options out now but when I done the EFI to carb swap and kept in tank pump the only reg. out was a $90 mallory high pressure return style reg.
You really do need the return style for this.
That is a really low flowing pump. It's only around 20 GPH IIRC. You can get away with about 30 GPH on a mostly stock sub 200 HP V8, but if your doing any real mods or plan on more than 250 HP you really need a 50-60 GPH pump
If your looking at 300-375 HP engine you will need about 80 GPH.
