350CID Gauges Question
OK so new issue with my car. I have a 86 Iroc and we have put a 350CID and 700R4 trans in it. I did not realize it at the time but apparently the previous owner put in the dash/gauges from a 91-92 camaro which of course is electronic so I am stuck on the speedo and tach. The rest of the gauges work correctly sense they are not computer controlled. There is no computer in the car so my question is this.....is there any adapters to make the gauges work with a speedo cable? I do not want to drop 600+ on a gauge cluster set for this car. I bought a used cluster set from the 81-89 camaro but it does not match up to the dash so that did not work.
Re: 350CID Gauges Question
Tach is electric, so run it off the coil or distributor whichever has an output
Electric speedo needs electric VSS, so grab one from a 90-92 car

Re: 350CID Gauges Question
I thought the signal from the VSS would pass through the ECM and then be sent to the speedo. Is this not correct?
I am not sure how all of that works.

Re: 350CID Gauges Question
It goes through a buffer box. Your camaro should already have one. If not, all 86-89 firebird/TAs do along with multiple other cars/trucks
