Rod knock, advice?
My car developed a rod-knock on the number 8 cylinder today. It's a 305 TPI engine that I was trying to get to pass emissions, but now it looks like I'm either going to have to rebuild it or replace it with a "new" 305 or 350. It's got a 700R4 trans that is in reasonable shape, so I'll just reuse it for now. I suppose my first choice would be a 350 swap, since I'm already getting pretty crap gas mileage with my 305. How much would a 350 TPI swap cost, and how long would it take? I'm looking for advice here, this was my daily driver but I can't keep driving it with a rod knock.

1, if it started knocking, you caught it and haven't driven it, you can usually do a simple bearing swap. That being said.... you have to hoist up the motor anyway and tear it down. Swap it with an l98. You can geta good one for about 750 from a scrap yard. Cost usually for the swap is $8-900. You'll be out $12-1600. But it's worth the money

I forgot to mention in this thread that I've pretty much decided on doing a 350 swap in some form or another. I don't have time to do an engine rebuild, and there's hardly any thirdgen's around my area (could potentially find another car that used a tpi, but still would take a lot of searching). Here's the link for the new thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ate-350-a.html
