85+ swap to 3.6L V6, Emissions?
85+ swap to 3.6L V6, Emissions?
The idea here is to put the latest 3.6L V6 found in 5thgens and Caddys into the 3rdgen. Reliability, peace of mind, ample power and fuel mileage. Intention of a daily driver for life.
I haven't seen any thread like this yet and am worried there is no one with any advice. I have a few concerns, engine mounts, transmission carryover( mounting that too), and emission laws.
It will probably be registered in PA, but I am not sure what the law requires for a brand new/modern engine in an old car on that Emissions/Inspection front.
Anybody know?

In most states you can swap a newer motor into an older car, provided all its emissions stuff is left intact. I don't know about PA specifically though. But, given that most of the "emissions" stuff is related to, part of, and/or required by the computer, it's usually easiest to leave it alone during a swap these days anyway; too much maze to go through, and too little cheeeeze to be bothered with, to get rid of any of it.

When I worked at the dealership, there were more 3.6's in for service than any other engine
From an amount of work perspective, its similar to LSx. Nothing you have will work, plus there is no aftermarket support so you get to fab everything
Unless you get everything free, I dont see any pluses over LSx. Even then its a hard sell. Has anyone cracked the ECM yet? Last I heard, no one had bothered yet
