305 carb'd to 350 carb'd
305 carb'd to 350 carb'd
Hey everyone. My name is Chris and I am new to the car scene.
My uncle and my cousins have a 1986 Firebird I have been wanting to get my hands on. My cousins are in there late 20's and don't really have time for the car, but they want it fixed up. It was there 1st car. My uncle bought a 350 and is thinking about putting it in. This was also my plan if I ever get the car. The 305 is carbureted and so is the 350. I was also thinking about putting in a T56 to replace the T5.(Which I think is doable thanks to this site)
What exactly do I need? I read forums about fuel injection and computers but I could find anything on carb to carb swaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 1986 Firebird 305 T5
Welcome to TGO!
Take pictures of everything when you disconnect. Just about everything will swap over from the 305 to the 350. You'll want a 350 knock sensor, not the 305 sensor from your old motor. The transmission swap is well detailed here on the site as is the overall swap.
Its a good swap, just make sure that the motor is good before it goes in and you get everything done to it now that you want done so you don't possibly have to pull it later and do it again.
