V6 engine swap

I am putting a new motor in my 86 firebird S/E all stock 2.8L multi port fuel injected And was wondering what v6 would be best I was thinking about putting in a 4.3L in is this a good decision I want the most bang for my buck and would a 4.8L mount up with my stock transmission.

Re: V6 engine swap

A 4.3 is not a good idea, it is basically a 350 that is missing 2 cylinders. A lot of work is involved to install one, basically a V8 swap.

To keep things simple stick with the 60 degree V6 family. Such as another 2.8 or a 3.1 or 3.4.

Re: V6 engine swap

Nothing special between years, The 3.4 can be found in 93-95 fourth gens. To swap it in your car, just swap the intake between your 2.8 and 3.4 and also the injectors. Everything else will obviously be plug and play

Keep loving it man! I put 6k miles on mine from May to September. They are such a blast to drive. Keep the service up to date and the big projects for the winter.

Re: V6 engine swap

I did the 3.4 swap and it is definitely worth it. There are a bunch of old threads (look for KED85's 3.4 Swap Boogie thread) that will give you pretty much everything you need to know. It's pretty straight forward though.
