Re: Help swapping 06 327 in 87 camaro

That engine is externally the same as the LS1.

You're right, a 6-cyl bell housing won't bolt to a V8.

Best manual trans choice is probably a LS1 T-56.

I suggest you refer to it as a 5.3 rather than "327", as it's actually not a "327", nor is it 327 CID.

It's a 325, and adapting a V8-spec T5 is possible, but would cost nearly as much as a used T56, but without the strength. Cheapest solution is a used 4L60E, or sell the 325 for some other engine.

Re: Help swapping 06 327 in 87 camaro

If you do this swap, then at some point you'll have to send your PCM out to get the vATS unlocked and the speedometer calibrated. This can be had for around $100. At the same time, whoever is doing that for you will need to know what transmission you're using, as well as your axle ratio and tire size. If you go T56, then the only wires to the transmission will be for the VSS, and you can build or order your wiring harness without all the wires a 4L60E would need.
In the same vein, if you want to use a 700R-4, it's just a VSS, plus optionally having the PCM control the TCC.
Wiring isn't the worry. Myself, Pocket, and several others have built harnesses, most of the info I needed came from LT1swap.com, the rest came from a thread Pocket did.
