87 firebird motor swap
Hello everyone, i have a 87 bird, currently a 305, I just bought a 350 from a 89 police impala. the motors look identical, mine is carbed, the other is throttle body... My question is... will this b a clean bolt in swap? I've seen different posts, where some had to change flywheels, or add a spacer, but I'm assuming its cause of the motor they were putting in ( year difference).. like I said these two look identical right down to the 4 center bolt valve covers.... any help would b greatly appreciated. just want it to b a smooth swap

Re: 87 firebird motor swap
Set the 2 motors side by side.
Whatever is different on the Impy motor, take it off, and replace with the equivalent part off of your 305.
Roughly speaking that's going to be the intake and carb; not much else. A few details here and there but not a whole lot.
No need to change flex plates.
Your main issue will be th eexhaust. Not because of fitment; rather, because that's one of the things that makes your 305 slow. It'll cripple a 350 even worse. EVERY PIECE, from the heads to the bumper, needs to go in the trash and be replaced.

And you will be so much happier with the added torque of the L05 especially if you do a full exhaust job on it. Good luck!
