HT383E TPI
I recently bought a HT383E from GMPP I also ordered the Edelbrock base plate high flow runners and a TPI's 58mm throttle body, 30lb injectors. I plan on running the motor with the wiring harness and ecm from a 1988 Camaro which had the 350 TPI. I have a new PROM chip from Fastchip.com recommended by Scoggin/Dickey.
All of this will be going into a 1956 Chevy, I will use the 700r4, rear end, and everything else from the Camaro to make up the drive train and wiring. I'm sure this swap has been done before anything I should be on the look out for? I have already bought everything mentioned, we are still a little ways off from being able to put the motor in the 56 so I have some time to change some things if needed. Thanks Guys!

Re: HT383E TPI
I would suggest not using the camaro rear axle because your gonna have to fabricate it to make it work with leaf springs. If you got the money just buy a 12 bolt and some 3.42 and call it done. Just my opinion

Re: HT383E TPI
Thanks, but we are already deep into this project. The camaro rear end is already under the 56. You are right we did have to fabricate some brackets to make it work. By using that rear end we got a rear sway bar and disk brakes basically for free since we already had it off the donar camaro. I'm not sure which gear is in the rear end yet but the car did have the G92 performance rear end. I can change the gear later if needed once we see how it is going to run. Keep the ideas coming guys.
One question I had about the swap is the distributor. The new 383 came with a new distributor but the plug coming off the distributor is different than the one on the Camaro wiring harness. My plan is to take it out and use the distributor off the Original 350 TPI so that all the plugs on the distributor will plug right in. The 88 Camaro and the new 383 both have roller cams so the gear on the bottom of the distributor should work right????
Here are some pics of the project so far. We are very close to having everything dry fitted and all the body work finished. We should be able to start tearing it back down and putting some paint on it in about a month. So we are not too far away from putting the new 383 in. I have all the parts or they have been ordered for the motor.

Re: HT383E TPI
The gear on the dist for both is the same. So yes you can use the L98 dist from the 88. Don't forget that the '88 uses the cold start 9th inj on the base. If deleting it you been to make sure the chip is set for that or you will have starting problems. Computer should be 165 or 259 for last 3 of it's part number. Also you might like to look in to dynamic efi for an ECU upgrade that saves burning chips... Just a thought as you might be able to return the cup you have. (If you feel comfortable with tuning)

Yep ninth injector and it has a maf sensor instead of the speed density which in my opinion is better. Hopefully you've already figured all that out since you've got a new prom.

Re: HT383E TPI
Yes, the new chip is tuned to run with the MAF it's my understanding it is a little more forgiving than the MAP. For now I'm leaving the 9th injector.
Yea, we really wanted to keep the TPI mainly for the looks and the fact that we put one in a Sqaure body 84 pickup when I was in high school absolutely loved that truck. Since this car is mainly going to be a weekend cruiser with a few out of state shows each year the TPI should be fine. I'm sending the Runners and Plueum off to be Chromed as soon as the runners come in. It should be a pretty engine compartment with the chromed plenum and runners. Most of the wiring and hoses will be neatly done and hidden as much as possible.
Thanks for the info on the Distributor I was thinking they should just swap over. Keep the ideas coming guys. John

MAF is more forgiving when u dnt like doing your own tuning and u r changing parts out left and right. With MAP it'll work just as good if tuned properly and then u got the added relief of not having a maf sensor restricting your cfm volume plus u dnt have to wry bout spending 200 bucks when it goes out.

Re: HT383E TPI
Well I wanted to update this post to let you guys know we are almost finished with the car. The Tpi 383 is running and so far seems to be a very strong motor. I really haven't been able to really get on it yet because we still have to old camaro wheels and tires on it and they are really dry rotted so I'm scared to get any up to any speed yet. But, I can tell you it will smoke the tires at will. I've got some new wheels and tires ordered so I will let you know how it does. I can't say enough good things about Ed Wright at Fastchip he has been more than helpful through the whole process answering questions that had nothing to do with programing. I've posted some new photos on my photo bucket. http://s203.photobucket.com/user/rgr.../1956%20Belair
