OK I got a 99 suburban sitting in my drive way about to scrap it it runs and drives just falling apart can I rip the engine and harness and everything and drop it in my 87 firebird that's 305 right now? What all will I need and is it worth it the car was originally a v6 car I swapped a 350 in had issues so got a 305 carbed but is not doing it for me I'm not looking for a drag car just a daily and play in every now and again hope to go turbos this winter

It's not usually recommended because the "spider" injection system isn't all that great. Makes more sense to get a Vortec carb intake manifold and stick the '99 engine under the carb.
Depending upon what's been done already, might be a good idea to upgrade the exhaust while you're at it.

Re: l31 vortec swap help needed
I am doing a similar swap with my 84 trans am, but I am going for a really aggressive street engine and we are racking up cost after cost. Five7kid is right, per usual, that stock spider injection is crap. If you are trying to keep the cost down there are some cheap options from edelbrock or holley if you want to stay with a normally aspirated carb setup.
But if you plan to go turbo down the road just be sure to look into a blow through carb so you avoid running too rich.
From my very limited experience, I would be sure to sit down and establish a long term goal for the engine that way you are not buying parts that you cannot use down the road. Done it a few times with mine and gets real annoying having to buy another part because you didn't plan it out far enough.

Re: l31 vortec swap help needed
I was thinking of just putting it in for now to get the car mobile again and when I get the money saved up buy a intake and the holley terminator efi setup and maybe a cam while I'm at it the motor already has fresh bearing and gaskets in it and oil pump so it's freshened up I'm just looking to get it to be able to move on its own power for now until I get some more cash put up for the efi system and a cam and the stuff to make the heads to be able to handle a bigger cam
