The radiator in my '82 Z28 needs to be replaced. But I am going to install a DFI 406 this summer. I want to install the factory type oil cooler that runs the oil through the radiator. Do I need/want the 3 tube radiator? And what do I ask for at the parts counter? i.e: 19?? Camaro W/??? and A/C, Auto trans. I think the 1LE cars had this set up. Do I need to get the radiator from GM? I had the part #s for the GM oil cooler kit (less radiator) somewhere but I lost them.

I know some of you guys have done this already. But my search could not find the old post.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

I don't have the oil cooler, but I purchased a Griffin aluminum radioator from summit size 31x19. I love it and it works great. Not a direct fit, but easy to make it work.

The oil cooler on the TPI cars cirulates coolant thru an adapter housing above the filter. (as opposed to running oil thru the radiator.)

So none of the 3rdgen cars had an engine oil cooler in the radiator?

Not in the radiator, no. You can buy one of the stacked plate oil coolers from Summit and place it in front of your radiator if you want one. The oil coolers that came on cars were typically just a long bent pipe that the oil was pushed through to cool it off a little, not real efficient.
