Small block 400/Muncie 4 speed swap help

Soon i'm going to swap my newly built 400 into my 91z and im unsure about using a muncie 4 speed. Im on a very tight budget and cant afford a t56 right now. Muncies are very cheap around me but im concerned about swapping everything over. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know

I don't have any experience with the Muncie, but I imagine there's a few things that are going to be a problem for you. Crossmember, Torque Arm, and the Drive Shaft.

You're not going to be able to mount your torque arm to the 4 speed. So, you're going to have to fabricate a crossmember with a torque arm mount, and be confident enough with your skills to ensure you get the angles right. Assuming that the 4 speed has a different length than whatever it is you're running right now (I'm assuming a T5) you may need a new driveshaft, too.

This is all speculation on my part. But I imagine we don't hear of too many people doing this swap for a reason.

You don't need to mount the TA to the transmission crossmember. You can get a unit like the BMR Trak Pak with its own crossmember (subframe connectors required - but who in their right mind doesn't run subframe connectors?).

With a 400 SBC and Muncie, I hope you're planning on a rear end upgrade as well.

Valid point! I suspect he'll still need to fabricate a crossmember, though.

Thank for the ideas guy but i thought about it and am going with a V8 t5 because it would be much cheaper and easier. I just hope the T5 doesn't grenade in the first few weeks!

Just baby it. No clutch dumps, no speed shifting.
