1986 2.8L Camaro engine and tranny swap
Hi, I have a 1986 Camaro with the 2.8L engine in it right now. It has awful compression so I want to swap a 5.7L into it. Since I am going that far I might as well swap the transmission. My question is, will a 4.3L (MG5 tranny code) bolt up to my car/engine? What will need to be done to bolt it up. New bell housing?

Yes, the 4.3 shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the V8 and will work on your 5.7.
BUT, the S10 T5 doesn't sit at an angle and won't fit the trans tunnel, I believe.

So update on my build. I ended up getting a manual trans out of a 1991 Chevy 350.
However, we got the engine and tranny together and inside the engine bay but came across an issue with my shifter not being in the same spot as it was factory. Wondering if this has something to do with the fact that we got the trans from a truck instead of a car?
Maybe the bellhousings are different angles.
Any tips or tricks would be helpful. This is new to me and I am trying to learn how this all works !
Thank you!!

A truck transmission ?
I’m sure the gear ratios are crap in a car.
What did you do about the torque arm mount ?
You really need to look into a t56 and if budget doesn’t allow a t5 for the meantime.

I recently installed one in a Silverado for a guy. Two totally different trannies with different shifter locations. Truck shifter sits farther forward. And as Tuned said the torque arm mount and the gearing!

The shifter is in the same spot as it was "factory": "factory" for A TRUCK, however. Not for a F-body car.
Sell that and buy a Camaro/Firebird transmission. That's the only way to make it fit, is a 2-step alchemical transmutation, with the intermediate state being ... cash.
