Truck engine with Peanut Port heads and a whopping 230hp? Why bother?

The Caprice might as well be a truck with it's wide open engine bay and standard frame. It'd be easy enough to do, but the engine is a boat anchor. It's heavy, lethargic, and parts to boost the power are $$$. Budget twice the funds for a big block build over a SBC.

Any particular reason you want a 454 in the Caprice? Do you already have one to put into the car?

well I'm honestly testing waters to see what has been done vs what's a PITA to be done, Lt1 swap headache, L98 swap headache, Ls1 swap expensive, I have another caprice 92 9c1 5.7, and wanted to do something different with my 91 5.0, any ideas

I know it's a bit older of a post and was just going to fade away, but I'll add some to it anyway.

Why bother you ask? Because grunt. Just a basic 4 bbl and decent intake along with a set of headers will really wake them up. I dumped a very basic peanut port 454 into my shortbed pickup a few years ago, and I'll tell you what, it's a real hoot to drive on the street.

Now with that said, there's two things you can do with a gen5 big block ( just assuming this TBI motor in question here is a '91-'94). You can leave it alone, or you can do an all out build where you basically only use the block. There's really not much middle ground in there for modifications because of all the light duty parts Chevy put in them.

Also, last time I saw a big block in a '91-'96 B-body, I seem to remember the carb being right up against the base of the wiper cowl.
