Need few pointers on engine swap

Hi thx for helping and ive been reading some stickys and stuff but i just need some opinions from guys that have done swaps before im thinking of swapping an ls 5.3 truck engine (from junkyard)into my 1986 iroc camaro with 305 carb and would like it manual(could go automatic to save money) about how much would that cost if i did everything? My budget is around 4000 i have most tools. My goal is around 400-450 hourspower.Or should i do a 350 swap?

Re: Need few pointers on engine swap

At 400 - 450 Hp there's really nothing to salvage from the old car that would make a 350 cheaper. Either way you cut it you'll need to upgrade the same parts. The 5.3L is just a cam swap way from that power and it will purr and drive like a kitten. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...o-results.html

Now somebody else is going to come in and say the exact opposite. So it's up to you to see the light and make your own choice.

4th gen rear is basically the same as the 10 bolt from the third gen, just wider. It's not any stronger.

I don't think you'll have much problem with a 10-bolt behind a 5.3L. Those engines don't make axle shattering torque down low.

That's up to you. I'd want better brakes for myself.
