LS3 Swap

Hi all. Glad to be a part of this group. I知 sure this topic has been beaten into the ground, but I知 throwing this up there anyway. After 20 years I am finally rebuilding my 83 Z from the ground up. I知 planning an LS3 crate swap and dropping my 700r4 for a T56. Im sure a lot of you have done this so I知 looking for some insight on things to know ahead of time. Any feedback on prior experience would be great. Thanks

Get ready to read, read and read. Review as many build threads as you can and start to pick up on what the common denominators are. Read the stickies in the lsx swap forum and get ready to read some more.

Re: LS3 Swap

Thanks for the reply, had planned to do as much research as possible while I tear the old girl down. Sifting through old tech data from old posts and keeping in mind all of the changes and kits available now. It looks like LS swaps have been going on for 10+ years. Glad a lot of companies have gotten behind this.

Yes. There are so many swap options and directions you can go. A lot will depend on your budget and how clever you are at dealing with ambiguity. Good luck, and although it seems like I gave you a cliche response, please post your specific questions.

Thank you, I知 sure there will quite a few. I have decided that the budget is going to be what ever it ends up being, and the time is going to be just that. This car and I have a long history and this rebuild has been a long time in the making.

Amen. You are now part of an elite population of all of us. Do it at your own pace and don't shortchange anything. When you add hundreds of horsepower to one of these cars your canvas must expand beyond powertrain. Make sure you research brakes, chassis and suspension upgrades. Those are even more important than the engine alone at this power level.
