I have a 1986 iroc factory 5.0 5 speed. Was my high school car. I did what most teenagers do big faster etc. Now I’m torn in do I try to take it back to factory or do I do resto-mod? I am leaning towards keeping the body stock and dropping in an lq4 I have with a t-56 but also very tempted to try and go back to original any advice?

 

Depends on ALOT of things.

Budget? Intended usage? Overall condition? Availability of stock replacement parts (like a carb that works? Condition of the LS setup?

 

Hard choice already having an awesome drivetrain already sitting there staring at you. Personally I like to see them stock-ish and would go with the L69 just maybe bump the cam up a bit and enjoy it for what it is.

 

Resto mod. 350-400hp is perfect for these cars to keep it tame for cruising. Other than that keep the body/interior stock!

 

I definitely don’t have any plan to race the car maybe against my buddies once in awhile. I’ve been leaning towards the ls bc i want 500 but I also want to keep it reliable. Pretty much car will sit in garage except for nice days. Car will ultimately be my daughter’s in many years I hope.
