Evils 383 build thread

i was gifted a "running" 1992 4 bolt main 350ci engine. it was complete but hadn't been started in 6 years. i was able to get it started before i pulled it from the truck and it ran smooth without any strange noises. I tore it down to the block and took it to Jacksons auto machine here in Oklahoma city. Jacksons has a great reputation for machine work. when i dropped it off the owner told me it would take 2 to 3 weeks. it took almost 5 months. i got the short block back about a week ago. its been bored and stroked out to 383cu. it has a forged crank, forged H beam rods, and hypertonic pistons and a comp cam, i have AFR 195 heads and a first tpi intake for it. I`m going to run a dual sync distributor, msd 6a box. i was planning to buy a cool billet 2 piece timing cover but i couldn't come up with a reason to buy a $200+ timing cover that will barley be visible when i have one that will work fine. weekend 1) i cleaned and painted the factory timing cover then installed the timing cover, oil pump, and oil pan. the oil pan is from the truck and I'm pretty sure it wont fit the thirdgen crossmember. I'm going to measure it but will probably have to swap it out with the pan from the motor that's in the car when i pull it. i had a random day off today so i went out and installed the AFR 195 heads. head installs are pretty straight forward and if the engine isnt in the car its pretty easy. prepped all the ARP head bolts with lubricant between the head and the chamfered washer and sealer on the threads. i turned the engine so that the head faced straight up so there would be no chance of it slipping off before i got a bolt in. i set the gasket on and made sure everything fit as it should. set the head down on the block and made sure it sat down on the dowels. the first head needed to be moved around to set flush. i put all bolts in with my fingers and then torqued it down to 70ft/lb in three increments. i moved the the second head following the same procedure. i thought everything was going smooth but after i finished the second torque increment i saw the head gasket sitting on my stool. working alone its always easy to point out the idiot.. i removed the head put the gasket on and started all over again. torqued the bolts to spec and called it a night. i have the damper but i dont want to install it until i know if the oil pan will need to be changed. the valvetrain can come next but i dont have the pushrods or rockers yet. the block has been decked and the heads are aftermarket so i will need to measure for the correct pushrod length. thats where im at right now. time to order a couple of parts.

Looking good so far.
Any specs on the cam? I have to assume you've got it in there as the timing cover is on!
What's the chamber volume on the AFR's?

heads have a 64cc chamber. the compression is 10.2. yes the comp cam is installed i cant remember the specs off hand but its not huge. machinist suggested the cam i used and the high performance lifters to go with it. said he ran a similar set up that made good power and still had good street manors.

Wondering if you have a part number for the pistons. And the head gasket?
I'm planning a 383 build myself and am working through the possible compression ratios based off of the piston volume, gasket and piston to head clearance.
